KEMI to Offer 3 Hours of Continuing Ed. on November 8th
Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce  - Owensboro, Kentucky

Who: Insurance agents with a Kentucky DOI license; attendance is limited to the first 60 agents registered.

What: KEMI is offering three hours of continuing education (C.E.) credit for agents interested in learning about important topics relating to workers' compensation. There is no cost to register or attend.

Where: Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, 200 East 3rd Street, Owensboro, KY 42302

When: November 8, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. - 12 p.m. CST (Registration and Continental Breakfast starting at 8:30am.)

Course Descriptions:

Independent Contractors
This session provides a detailed review of the employer/employee relationship as it relates to the compensability of a claim where the injured worker is an independent contractor. Participants will learn the basics of the employer/employee relationship in the area of workers’ compensation along with an analysis and application of the current law regarding independent contractors. Key elements of the analysis will be explored and explained to participants in order to assist them in understanding whether or not an injured workers is an employee or independent contractor.

Throughout the presentation, time for questions will be allotted and themes will be illustrated by real world examples and application of the analysis.

Extraterritorial Coverage
This session provides a detailed review of extraterritorial coverage and the applicable statute as it relates to the compensability of a claim. Participants will learn the basics of extraterritorial coverage in the area of workers’ compensation along with the analysis and application of the statute and current case law. Key elements of the analysis will be explored and explained to participants in order to assist them in determining whether a claim is compensable under the extraterritorial statute. 

Throughout the presentation, time for questions will be allotted and themes will be illustrated by real world examples and application of the analysis.

Workers Compensation: Litigation Process
This session will provide a detailed discussion and overview of the litigation process explaining the prosecution and defense of a claim as well as a discussion of the different activity which will occur during the litigation.
